10 Tips for Book Placement to Attract Readers
TS
Organize Your Books by Genre
Did you ever work into someone's home and immediately notice their bookcase? Well, if you're like me, you certainly will have done. I've spent countless hours arranging and then rearranging my office book cases as clients will quickly make up their minds as to your 'book guy' credibility. So, I've learned some tricks of the trade over the years and will share some with you now.
When placing books, start by organising them by genre. This helps readers find what they are looking for quickly. Grouping similar books together makes it easier for readers to browse and discover new titles. For example, I've arranged all my John Connolly books from the very first one published up to the most recent one, and they're on the 'Thriller' shelf.
Use Eye-Catching Displays
Create displays that catch the eye. Use props and decorations that relate to the book's theme. This draws attention and makes the display more inviting. I love having my Dicken's books all in two rows, again from the very first publication date to the very last. If you love books, this is something you'll really appreciate.
Rotate Your Stock Regularly
Change your displays and stock regularly. Rotating books keep the selection interesting. It also gives less popular books a chance to be seen. Sometimes, a client can come by the office and wonder about a particular book from an author and I can point them towards a similar author/genre that is new to the eye so to speak.
Use Signage Effectively
Clear and informative signs help guide readers. Use signs to show genres, new arrivals, and special sections. Make sure the signs are easy to read and understand.
Showcase bestsellers in a special section. This draws attention to popular titles and can boost sales. Readers often look for what is trending.
Use Themed Displays
Change your displays to match seasons or events. Themed displays can attract readers' interest. For example, a Halloween display in October can be very appealing or books stashed by a beach can be very alluring.
Engage with Your Community
Host events like book signings or readings. Engaging with the community can bring more readers to your store or offices. It also creates a sense of connection and loyalty. It's coming up to Swedish Midsomer next month and we always like to give a nod to our Swedish office in Lund. Books in both English and Swedish adorn our shelves there.
